NRL: Finals on the line for top trio

3 minute read

South Sydney Rabbitohs, Newcastle Knights and Brisbane Broncos will be desperate to keep their top-eight hopes alive when they take to the pitch on Saturday.

The Broncos made the grand final in 2023, but unless there is a big turnaround in the coming weeks, they will not even make finals in 2024.

They are currently down in 13th spot on the ladder, four points away from the eight, and are priced at 2.10 to force their way in.

Brisbane must begin the road to recovery against another side battling to make finals, Newcastle.

The Knights are two points ahead of the Broncos, but are 5.00 to make finals.

South Sydney are 10.00 and their home clash against Wests Tigers is a must-win if they are to keep their slim finals hopes alive.

A defeat for any of the three will probably spell the end of their top-eight hopes, so it is a massive day to say the least.

Bunnies look to bounce back

. What: South Sydney Rabbitohs v Wests Tigers
. Where: Industree Group Stadium, Gosford
. When: 15:00 (AEST), Saturday 20th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: South Sydney Rabbitohs 1.28, Wests Tigers 3.70

South Sydney saw their five-match winning streak come to an end when they slipped to a 36-28 defeat against the Dolphins last weekend.

It may have been different had they taken their chances, and they will be keen to bounce back against the Tigers.

Souths have a great record against the Tigers, winning seven of the last eight games against them, including 32-18 and 20-0 victories last season.

They will be targeting a big win against a Tigers side that have conceded a total of 138 points in the last three games.

Souths are priced at 2.10 to win by 13+ points.

Alex Johnston has also scored nine tries in the last five games against the Tigers and is 1.60 to score another at anytime.

Broncos finals hopes on the line

. What: Newcastle Knights v Brisbane Broncos
. Where: McDonald Jones Stadium, Newcastle
. When: 17:30 (AEST), Saturday 20th July 2024
. How to watch: Kayo, Foxtel
. Odds: Newcastle Knights 2.25, Brisbane Broncos 1.65

The Broncos have now lost the last six games on the bounce, and unless they can stop the rot quickly, their finals hopes will disappear.

Their latest defeat was a four-point loss to the Dragons last weekend, and they need to bounce back at McDonald Jones Stadium.

They have a good record against the Knights, winning the last four meetings, and can be backed at 3.40 to win this latest one by 1-12 points.

The Knights were thumped 44-6 by Manly on Sunday and will be delighted to be back on home soil.

Bradman Best has scored four tries in his last five NRL games and the Knights will be praying he comes through State of Origin unscathed.

If he does, then the centre can be backed at 3.20 to score a try at anytime in the game.
