Exciting three year old Mental is continuing to attract strong support to win the Stradbroke Handicap despite being far from guaranteed a start in the race after not incurring a penalty for last Saturday's impressive win at Doomben.
Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Mental was a clear second favourite for the race at $8.00 behind Sea Siren and he would shorten significantly again if he got a start in the Stradbroke.
“We put Mental back up at $8.50 after the win on Saturday and took a bet of $2000 each way straight away and the money has just kept coming for him,” Sullivan said.
“If he gets a run in the race, there is little doubt in my mind he will run favourite.
“To get a run though he will probably have to win at Eagle Farm on Oaks Day and then back up in the Stradbroke a week later.”
Sullivan said there had been money for a number of other runners who impressed last weekendl.
“Pampelonne is third favourite at $10 and has been well backed for the 10,000 and the Stradbroke while
Torio's Quest who was also good at Scone has been backed into $13,” he said.“Two horses that impressed at Doomben on the weekend have also been big shorteners with Wealth Princess shortening from $41 to $13 while Solzhenitsyn is now $14 after being $101 just a couple of weeks ago.”
