Early mail and Blackbook Update for January 21.

RANDWICK January 21

RACE 2 (5) SPENDING TO WIN: Dropped his maiden in fine style when he won a BM 72 first up for five months over 1100m at Canterbury on December 21 when racing out of his class. It was only his fourth career start and his appearance suggested he would take considerable improvement from that win, which interestingly cost him a start in last weekend’s rich Magic Millions maiden at the Gold Coast. Suggests his top stable is confident he will go through his classes.

RACE 6: (9) LIAPARI: We have been with him before recently and he owes us but this could be his race on a seven day back up from a much improved second over this course and distance last Saturday when he responded to the addition of blinkers. He’s down 3kg from that effort when he closed strongly and doubt that he will find this any harder.

RACE 9 (6) DEPLOY: Progressive 4YO from the Gerald Ryan yard lines up for his third successive win since resuming and while taking another step up remains the horse to be with the advantage of a claim and the feeling he is yet to reach his peak. Showed talent against some classy types last season and his current progress can be put down to being gelded during his last spell. Should get all of the favours here from a draw that will give him the trail behind the leaders.
