The in-form training-partnership of Toby and Trent Edmonds continued their good form on Saturday as Smart 'N' Sexy (2 f ex Sexy Thing by Mossman) proved too strong for her rivals in the Dalrello Stakes (Listed, 1200m) at Eagle Farm and in the process handed Twin Hills-based sire Smart Missile (Fastnet Rock) with his 18th stakes winner.

Last seen running fifth in the Bill Carter Stakes (Listed, 1110m) two weeks ago, the filly flew home to clinch victory in the shadow of the winning post, beating One Shy Ruby (Rubick) by a head with another quarter of a length back to Be Water My Friend (Headwater) in third.

It was a good day for the father and son training partnership who also sent out Vanna Girl (Husson) to win The Roses (Gr 2, 1800m) on the same card later in the afternoon.

"Today's win was a relief. She has been getting terrible barriers and having no luck," Trent Edmond said.
"Smart 'N' Sexy was overdue for a win. You like to see smart horses rewarded with wins.

"She is a black-type winner now so we might turn her out and bring her back for the Magic Millions Guineas in the summer."

A $105,000 purchase by LB Racing at the 2019 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the Gerry Harvey-bred Smart 'N' Sexy is out of Sexy Thing (Mossman), whose other foal to race is also a winner.

Sexy Thing herself is out of 1996 Kewney Stakes (Gr 2, 1400m) winner Eureka Jewel (Semipalatinsk), making her a half-sister to Listed-winning pair Sermon (Octagonal) and Golconda (Snitzel) - who was also placed at Group 1 level.

Further afield this is the family of Group 3 winner Spurred On (Flying Spur) and Listed scorer Live Theatre (King's Theatre).

In 2019, Sexy Thing produced a filly by Reliable Man (Dalakhani) and has most recently been covered by Waikato Stud-based sire Savabeel (Zabeel).

Smart 'N' Sexy was one of two juvenile winners for Smart Missile on Saturday, with the Lindsay Park-trained Crosshaven (2 g ex Irish Colleen by Shinko King) landing the Sheamus Mills Bloodstock Handicap (1200m) at Moonee Valley.

The stallion's progeny is headed by Group 1 winner Maid Of Heaven and he will stand at Twin Hills Stud for an unchanged fee of $22,000 (inc GST) in 2020.
