Glass Warrior battles to Launceston Cup victory
Former Blue Gum Farm resident Glass Harmonium (Verglas) was provided with his first Group winner on Wednesday as his daughter Glass Warrior (5 m ex Hissy Miss by Golden Snake) came out on top of a thrilling battle to win the Launceston Cup (Gr 3, 2400m).
The five-year-old mare was last seeing running seventh in the Hobart Cup (Gr 3, 2400m), but she put that performance behind her, staying on bravely to prevail in a blanket finish, beating Sh'bourne Renegade (Wordsmith) by a nose, while White Hawk (Tough Speed) was the same distance away in third.
“I want to watch the replay because I still can’t believe she won,” trainer John Blacker told Tasracing.com.au.
“I had to step back for a minute and take some deep breaths after the race because I got a bit emotional.
“I told the owners when this mare was a young horse that she was a genuine stayer and that we could win a major cup down the track, and she almost did that last season.”
A winner of the Launceston Guineas (Listed, 2100m) in 2019, Glass Warrior is out of unraced Golden Snake (Danzig) mare Hissy Miss, who has produced two other winners.
Further back this is the same pedigree as Listed-winning duo Saratoga’s Music (Tactical Cat) and Awesome Rhythm (Toccet).
Hissy Miss foaled a filly foal by Darley shuttler Frosted (Tapit) and was covered by Fiorente (Monsun) last spring.
Glass Warrior is Glass Harmonium’s only stakes winner and he covered just one mare in 2020.
