Group One winning son of Galileo to stand his first season at stud for a fee of $11,000

Group One winner Johannes Vermeer (Galileo) will stand at Cornwall Park Stud in Victoria for a fee of $11,000 (inc GST) this year. 

The son of Galileo (Sadler’s Wells), who was trained for all but one start by Aidan O’Brien, retired from racing having won four of his 16 career starts and placing on a further seven occasions for prize money earnings of $1,875,572. 

His victories include the Criterium International (Gr 1, 1400m) at Saint-Cloud as a two-year-old and he also finished second in the Racing Post Trophy (Gr 1, 1m) that year. As a four-year-old he added the International Stakes (Gr 1, 1m2f) to his resume and also finished runner-up in both the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m) and Caulfield Stakes (Gr 1, 2000m) and was third in the Caulfield Cup (Gr 1, 2400m). 

His peak Timeform rating was 122 following his Melbourne Cup and Caulfield Stakes runs. 

Raced by Lloyd and Nick Williams and partners, Johannes Vermeer is one of five winners out of winning Holy Roman Emperor (Danehill) mare Inca Princess making him a brother to Group Two winner Elizabeth Browning and Listed winner Sapa Inca as well as the Group One placed colt Wembley and Group Two placed filly Petite Mustique.
