Fee of $33,000 set for Group 1 winning son of Snitzel
The 2021 Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) winner In The Congo (Snitzel) has been retired from racing and will stand his first season at Newgate Farm this year for a fee of $33,000 (inc GST).
"In The Congo was a high-class and fast Group 1 winning three-year-old by champion sire Snitzel out of a champion sprinting race mare. His three-year-old form from the start of the season until the end was nothing short of outstanding," said Newgate stud manager Jim Carey.
"As a racehorse, In The Congo had enormous class and speed, genetically he's by a Champion sire out of a Champion race mare, and physically he is just exceptional.
"These three criteria are historically great indicators of future high-level stallion success. He's a deadset penalty kick for commercial breeders this season."
Co-trainer Adrian Bott said that the son of Snitzel (Redoute's Choice), who broke his maiden on debut as a juvenile, was an outstanding three-year-old.
"In The Congo is the best three-year-old sprinter I've ever trained," said co-trainer Adrian Bott.
"He consistently displayed A grade Group 1 form and incredibly raw speed for his entire three-year-old season. As a four-year-old it's fair to say he didn't come up as well and probably had other things on his mind.
"However, at three he was outstanding, beating the best and always displaying that brilliant, sustained speed. He is the profile of a stallion that we will be aggressively supporting in the yearling market in the years to come."
In The Congo was bought for $380,000 by Newgate Bloodstock and China Horse Club at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale. He has won three of his 15 career stars and placed in another seven of those including last year's Group 1 The Galaxy (1100m).
He is out of the multiple Grade 1 winning South African sprinter Via Africa (Var) who won ten races and was crowned champion sprinter in South Africa in 2013-14.
Via Africa's filly by The Autumn Sun (Redotue's Choice) is set to sell at next week's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale as Lot 440.
