A look into the pedigree of Saturday’s Caulfield Guineas winner

Written Tycoon has been one of Australia's top stallions for many seasons now, largely due to the performances of his sprinting sons and daughters, but he can throw a miler as well.

The son of Iglesia reiterated that on Saturday when Private Life provided him with a second win in the $3 million 1600-metre event.

The Chris Waller-trained colt's win came four years after Ole Kirk provided Written Tycoon, who now stands at Yulong in Victoria, engineered his first win in the Caulfield Group 1.

Also in 2020, Written Tycoon's daughter Odeum won the Thousand Guineas (1600m), while Southport Tycoon won this year's Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington.

Written Tycoon's ability to throw a Guineas winner, combined with Aliyana Tilde's deeds in races over further, would have been part of the reason why Tom Magnier would have been happy to pay $650,000 for the colt at last year's Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

By Snitzel, Aliyana Tilde is out of the unraced Mister C mare Patronella and realised her best results in races longer than the traditional Guineas distance.

The biggest of her three wins came in the Group 3 Epona Stakes (1900m), while she was runner-up to Streama in the 2012 Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m) and finished third in both the Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) and Sydney Cup (3200m) at the highest level.

Private Life is the sixth named-foal out of Aliyana Tilde whose previous best to date is Earth Trilogy, who won two races in Australia before heading to Hong Kong where the Animal Kingdom gelding was also a winner.

The Guineas was Private Life's first start at 1600m and his first outing since his Group 2 Caulfield Guineas Prelude fourth placing at his first try at 1400m and Waller has left ajar the door to a drop back in distance for one more start this campaign.

The champion trainer on Monday morning reported that Private Life, who has now won three of his five starts, had come through the Guineas in fine style and he had not ruled a start in the $2 million Group 1 Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) at Flemington on Derby Day.
