Grand Son Of Calyx and Nellie Leylax give Coolmore Stud's Calyx his third and fourth winners
Grand Son Of Calyx (2 c ex Asawer by Darshaan) broken his maiden in impressive style at Saint-Cloud on Monday, becoming the third winner for his Coolmore Stud-based sire Calyx (Kingman).
Racing towards the back of the field, Grand Son Of Calyx showed a good turn of foot inside the final 200 metres and pulled clear to win by four lengths from Grande Maker (Goken).
Grand Son Of Calyx was bred by Barronstown Stud and was having his second career start, having finished fourth on debut at Saint-Cloud on 23 March.
Calyx didn't have to wait long for his fourth winner with Nellie Leylax (2 c ex Lovelocks by High Chaparral) scoring on debut at Beverley. The Tom Dascombe-trained colt ran on well in the closing stages to defeat the favourite, Scoops Ahoy (Bungle Inthejungle), by a half length.
Calyx's 2023 fee was advertised at €10,000. Winner of the Group 2 Coventry Stakes (6f) at Royal Ascot as a juvenile in 2018, he stood his first season at stud in 2020 for €22,500.
