Nothin’ Leica Dane earned recognition as a fine stayer. As a 3YO he won the G1 Victoria Derby (Octagonal second) and G1 Spring Champion Stakes and finished second to Doriemus in the G1 Melbourne Cup.

At four he stayed on to finish second in the G1 Sydney Cup and G1 AJC Metropolitan and fifth in the Melbourne Cup.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse, Nothin’ Leica Dane contested 28 races, the last four in France. He finished second in the G2 Prix Foy but finished near the rear in the G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.

A three-quarter brother to Duelled, a Redoute’s Choice G2 winner and runner up in the G1 Victoria Derby, he was retired to Byerley Stud where he became a handy sire, leaving eight stakes winners and six others stakes placed among 257 winners.

The queen of his runners was the ill-fated sprinter Hot Danish whose 16 wins included the Doomben 10,000, All-Aged Stakes, Emancipation Stakes, Premier Stakes, AJC Shorts, Canterbury Stakes, Breeders’ Classic and Salinger Stakes.

She died while still in work with her trainer Les Bridge.

Another Nothin Leica Dane mare Cinque Cento won the Doomben Cup and Doomben Roses and finished second in the Queensland Oaks.
