Stars and clouds, a Makfi half-sister to Moonlight Cloud, made a winning debut in the fillies' mile maiden at Chantilly on Friday.

Trained like her illustrious sibling by Freddy Head, Stars And Clouds showed an excellent attitude to ease clear of Reine Magique under Thierry Jarnet.

The dam, Ventura, was purchased in foal to Makfi - carrying what would turn out to be Stars And Clouds - by MV Magnier at Tattersalls in December 2011 for 900,000gns.

Consigned by Haras des Capucines, Stars And Clouds was sold at Arqana in August 2013 for €360,000 and carries the colours of Madame Yolande Seydoux, who owns the filly in partnership with Eric Puerari.

Asked to compare Stars And Clouds with six-time Group 1 winner Moonlight Cloud, Head said: "They are different kinds of horses. She was courageous and it was a nice debut so I think she has a good future. She can progress from here although that might be it for this year."
