Inglis sale graduates won four races at Turffontein in South Africa on Saturday led by champion filly Majmu notching her second straight Group 1 victory.
Majmu was one of three Australian bred and Inglis sold winners on the program trained by Mike de Kock, the others being Anjaal and Shaama.
Wild Ash completed the Aussie romp under the guidance of trainer Geoff Woodruff.Bred by Arrowfield Pastoral, Majmu (Redoute’s Choice x Spontaneous) was dominant against fillies and mares running out a three lengths victor in the G1 Empress Club Stakes over 1600m ahead of Trophy Wife and fellow Inglis graduate Tamaanee.
Racing in the colours of Shadwell Stud for Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the three-year-old Majmu took her impressive record to six wins from seven starts, and is certain to be crowned South Africa’s champion 3YO Filly this season to add to her Champion 2YO Filly title last year.“She is a special filly who will go on to bigger and better things and when she goes overseas, I am sure she has an international Group 1 in her,” Mike de Kock said.
"She hasn't run over her right distance yet. We believe 2000 to 2400 metres will not be an issue for her and her temperament and courage are a lot to do with that.”The daughter of Redoute’s Choice was purchased from Arrowfield Stud’s draft for $300,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.
The sale has been a successful hunting ground for Shadwell, with the selection team comprising racing manager Angus Gold, Mike de Kock and Form Bloodstock's Jehan Malherbe.Shadwell was once again active at the 2015 edition of the Inglis Easter Sale as the leading individual buyer for the third consecutive year.
Mike de Kock and Shadwell combined with other Inglis Easter graduates Anjaal and Shaama to win two additional races at Turffontein on Saturday.The G1 placed Anjaal (Lonhro x Miss Portofino) recorded his second career win over 1400m while two-year-old Shaama (Redoute’s Choice x Absolut Glam) kicked off the day in style when winning on debut over 1160m.
Wild Ash (Dylan Thomas x Wild Orchid) capped off the triumphant day for Inglis graduates when recording her first stakes victory in the Listed Spook Express Handicap over 2450m. It was Wild Ash’s second straight win over the same course and distance.Bred by M & R Services in New South Wales, Wild Ash was sold by Middlebrook Valley Lodge for $18,000 as a weanling at the 2011 Inglis Australian Weanling and Bloodstock Sale to Paul Guy’s Heritage Bloodstock.
The filly was exported to South Africa where she was sold as a yearling to trainer Geoff Woodruff for owner Mrs Ashnee Devachander.Middlebrook Valley Lodge are set to offer Wild Ash’s weanling half-brother by Pluck at the 2015 Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale on May 3, 4, 5 & 6.
Other weanlings to be offered at the May sale include the half-sister to G1 Empress Club Stakes placegetter Tamaanee from Yarraman Park Stud.
