The stakes wins just keep coming for O'Reilly, this time it was his son Paddy O'Reilly who put in a very brave performance to win the Group 3 Le Pine Funerals Easter Cup (2000m) at Flemington on Saturday.
Having no luck in transit, Paddy O'Reilly (O'Reilly x Star Of Amarissa) was trapped wide early before finding some cover mid-race. Coming into the contest at the 600 metre mark under jockey Jason Maskiell, the five-year-old hit the lead at the 200 metres and, through sheer grit, held off the fast-finishing Fanjura to win by a head.
Trained by Robert Smerdon, the win was Paddy O'Reilly's first win at stakes level, and was his fourth victory from his nineteen race day appearances. His stakes earnings are now in excess of A$270,000.
Having another outstanding season courtesy of his dual Group 1 winning daughter Shamrocker and stakes winners Guyno, Dating, Annie Higgins and Escadaire, Paddy O'Reilly is O'Reilly's 48th individual stakes winner.
Paddy O'Reilly was offered by Hallmark Stud at the 2007 Karaka Premier Sale.
