Early Retirement For Rock 'N' Pop

3 minute read

Fastnet Rock's Group One winner Rock ‘N’ Pop has been retired from racing due to injury.

The four-year-old will retire to Waikato Stud for the start of his stud career later this year.

Rock 'N' Pop won the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas at Riccarton last season and was second to Silent Achiever in the G1 NZ Derby at Ellerslie.

A son of Sir Tristram's G1 winning mare Popsy, Rock 'N' Pop has since had a luckless stint in Australia with the Gai Waterhouse stable.

He raced just twice for Waterhouse, being injured when last in the G2 Warwick Stakes at Warwick Farm last

August before resuming in the recent Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on January 10.

He suffered a recurrence of his earlier problems after that race, brining on his early retrirement.

Rock ‘n’ Pop, a $NZ1 million yearling, won three of his 11 starts.
