Sir John Hawkwood (Race 5) resumes over 2000m, which doesn’t sound an easier assignment but he did manage to win under the same conditions in the autumn. He raced well at the Brisbane carnival since and punters are looking for him to strike again first up at $5 having firmed a fill point in early betting.

Yankee Rose (Race 7) was at double figure odds when final field betting commence on the Golden Rose but she has been the centre of a big go and has almost halved that quote to $6. The filly is a query first up in a race like this but showed her class winning the Sires and running second in the Slipper in the autumn and the money suggests she is ready to fire fresh.

Ravi (Race 8) is one of several in this to have support but she has been the most significant firmer, in two points at each way odds to $5. She faces her class test today but is a progressive mare having won her last three runs and should be ready to fire first up after two trial placings.

Balmain Boy (Race 9) could be worth an each way ticket at $9 first up after as much as $17 was available in early betting. The four year-old took on Group 1 and 2 company last campaign and while he was up to that his previous efforts were good in similar company to this.
