Indexes should make amends for his defeat as heavily supported favourite last start when dropping in class to contest the Kilmore Trackside Maiden Plate (1907m) on Tuesday.
The Peter Snowden-trained galloper last start contested a Ratings 58 at Echuca over a mile where he chased well but couldn’t quite get the job done as he finished a neck off the winner.
Indexes on that occasion was being urged along before the turn and stuck to his task in a way that gave every indication rising to this distance should be right up his alley.
That with a drop back to maiden company appears a perfect combination for the Exceed And Excel gelding.
The three-year-old lines up in a field of 10 where he rates clear on top against rivals who have shown limited ability during their endeavours to break maiden status.
Indexes possesses a master Timeform figure of 75, achieved last start which exceeded his prior peak rating of 74 achieved on debut.
His latest master figure sits seven pounds clear of his nearest rival and the gelding appears pitchforked into the set weights event.
From barrier 1, expect Vlad Duric to position Indexes in behind the speed or even share the pacesetting duties with perhaps That’s A Given.
There appears to be minimal speed in the race and with an anticipated easy time of things up on the lead, Indexes should deliver a strong kick and claim a maiden success.
Add to that one of the in form jockeys of Australia at present, Vlad Duric, taking the ride on the Peter Snowden-trained runner, Indexes looms as proving hard to beat.
It is hard to find a clear cut main danger in the race.
By His Design has placed in two of his three career starts to date.
The Nadeem gelding ran on well late last start for a second at this track over a mile.
He appears suited by the distance rise here third up but while his form looks good at first sight, a query must be raised over the strength of opposition the four-year-old has been up against.
A few others in the field have produced some sound runs this preparation but it is fair to say of the horses who are about to be mentioned, consistency is not their strong point.
Son Of Illusion and That’s A Given each produced career best outings when each placed at their last starts.
Both crept into the minor placings at huge odds and despite some encouraging signs, they should still only be taken on trust at this stage.
Barely A Secret was placed at this track and distance three back however her form has waned in two outings since.
All signs point to Indexes taking out the fourth race at Kilmore today.
