Terminator time tonight in the tenth

3 minute read

The best event on a big card in terms of race numbers and runners is the tenth of twelve on an all poly card at Kranji.

In what looks a good betting race too it is a resuming sprinter well drawn in Terminator that is expected to end the chances of all the others and win.

The S$75K Kranji Stakes C over 1200m on the polytrack looks to have plenty of early pace and pressure but also a couple that could sit poised or pounce from further back on settling.

Terminator from gate three has size and early power with the Shane Baertschiger prepared gelding resuming tonight looking ready after two trials.

I felt his trial fourth at the end of last month was sound then his win a couple of weeks later oozed that the big horse was in the mode to eliminate opposition.

He goes fast early and can run time so has been involved in some torrid contests where gaining a breather is not allowed.

Corey Brown will ride Terminator that has won and placed before in a fresh up state and is an all weather performer only.

His eleven starts on the poly have yielded four wins and five placings plus a fifth and a seventh, with the two misses forgivable for mine.

He was surrounded in traffic when seventh and that is not his go and the fifth that came last time he raced was a deadest gassing after attacking for the front.

The winner of his last start back in January was none other than Martincho Cat which since has won three more times in five starts and has come good now being prepared as a sprinter/miler.

If the good draw for Terminator makes him a cyberforce at the finish then the ace gate and Media Captain therefore becomes a must include.

Joao Moreira rides the Cliff Brown trained Media Captain, a four-year-old that has been expensive for bettors since coming to Singapore.

To be fair Moreira has not ridden it yet so expect an avalanche of support and after a game resumption fifth in a very fast run 1000m on the poly I see this as a potential headline grabber tonight.

Media Captain was deep and off the track for his fresh up race plus hanging out across the top so covered an exorbitant amount of extra ground throughout.

Gate one at 52kg screams this is a major chance and getting 6kg from Terminator will be important at the finish plus the likelihood of a relentless run race can only help.

His first outing in Kranji last October saw him win an Initiation from the sit behind the pace and I see that sort or Moreira ride tonight looking to get out on the home turn or soon after and bomb them late.

Savannah Dancer will have a 2kg claimer atop for the first time since coming to Singapore and the in form Harry Kasim gets the ride on the Michael Freedman mare to display his wizardry.

She comes back to a suitable race this preparation third up after running on the turf at G3 and then in a Progress event.

The real key for me is back to the poly as the mare ran on it at her first three starts for a win by six lengths (third up) that came after two luckless second placings.

The daughter of Savabeel is getting stronger all the time and in a solidly run race down to 56kg I can see her swamping these if they go mad up front to the home turn.

She has a G3 placing already at Kranji on the turf in a solidly run 1400m and you cannot leave her out tonight from a middle barrier.

I suspect Moreira would have been atop but the 58kg likely concerned Freedman and he went for the claim plus of course a visa issue to enter the USA has played havoc this week for the champion Brazilian.

Two other names I have as worth including in your multiples are Bazinga and Speed Demon with both drawn out and the former gets a 2kg claim.

Bazinga from the leading stable at the moment in Singapore of Mark Walker has buried this type of grade before and in fact twice.

He had a name change from Bring Me The Money to his current Bazinga and won a Kranji Stakes C last September easily over Peaceful Warrior.

Two starts ago saw him swamp a Kranji Stakes C field after a claim by the apprentice Rizuan Shafiq, who rides again this evening.

The one glaring thing missing in his record is a win at 1200m as the closer is a 1000m specialist at this point.

Speed Demon can burn early or be restrained and ridden cold to come with one hot surge so leave him out at your peril.

Sometimes he is his own worst enemy with tardiness at the jump but too his credit the will to be involved in the finish is undiminished.

The seven starts he has had so far have produced three wins, two placings and a pair of fourths so multiples bettors and that includes the first-four simply cannot leave the Steven Lam runner out of any combination.

His efforts this year have been super and after leading to win easily resuming he has been asked a lot of in the running since but not shirked the task.

Oscar Chavez once again rides and will know by now he has plenty of ability to work with either early or across the top to the home turn.

Terminator may use his speed and strength to good effect from a nice gate and terminate these in true Schwarzenegger-style at the finish.

I do see Media Captain and Savannah Dancer as serious win threats with both able to pounce either early the run home or over the closing stages to score.

Speed Demon depending on how he begins will make his pace presence felt at some stage and hard to not include one with such a consistent record.

Enjoy the feature event.
