Supernova is no black hole for bettors

3 minute read

A poly track specialist with it all ahead of him is the star expected to explode to victory tonight at the equine solar system of Singapore racing that is Kranji.

Supernova has never been out of the money on all weather (six starts for four wins and two placings) and tonight will be reunited with a familiar pilot.

Zulkifli Zuriman will claim 3kg and bring Supernova down to the winning weight of 54kg so from a middle barrier this looks a victory written in the stars under the sign of success.

They look the brightest light for bettors in Race Seven, a S$75K Class Three over 1200m on the poly.

The first four starts of Supernova saw Zuriman ride the Bruce Marsh trained galloper into a brace of wins and two placings.

He drew gates six and nine when winning so likes to have some room to move and does have good early pace.

A key fact is sitting wide throughout does not hamper the Elusive City gelding as he can do work and accelerate further.

Last start at his first ever turf outing he finished fourth but ran an honest fourth in an Open Benchmark 74 and carried 57kg so did well under such an impost.

The 54kg he will have this evening is the second lightest weight carried to date so the gelding will not know himself and expect to witness some here comes the boom!

The feature event is a good field and betting race so overs prices are assured with so much form and known ability contesting the event.

California Eagle is a three-year-old colt drawn well and to carry 53kg plus Joao Moreira going here is uber-significant as the top gun rider has so may options to choose from every race.

Moreira is a very good form judge and more often than not picks the best mount suited to a race and for David Kok tonight he is staying loyal.

Bettors will like that Moreira has three other rides tonight for the Kok stable in Super Six (Race One), Listen (Race Four) and Drumsara (Race Five) so maybe a Let It Ride approach is feasible!

Moreira has ridden California six times for three wins and three placings, with the fourth on debut coming for another rider.

The son of Whywhywhy is not an open question for Delilah but you will get a hair cut of a price as Moreira is backed liked he is Samson in every single race he rides in Singapore.

A last start super second in Class Three saw him split Petrenui and One Smart Cat and that is since very serious form.

Petrenui was beaten a nostril flare last week in a Benchmark 83 and One Smart Cat absolutely demolished a Class Three field including defeating the up until then unbeaten Flash Gift.

Favouritism will be with California Eagle as he is a progressive young horse with the best rider perhaps ever seen at Kranji atop and is drawn to suit.

There is a heap of early pace in this race and it will come from wide out too so it should be the charge of the light brigade over the opening 400m at least.

This means some shuffling will happen and several runners are going to cop either a wide or rocky run or both.

Bettors should take note the weight swing is greatly in favour of Boundless Glory over Golden Sand Steed tonight, after they finished third and second respectively last start in the same race.

The 1.5kg extra relief for Boundless Glory is substantial and Manoel Nunes getting atop is a big tick.

Nunes has been sensational for Singapore this year and has ridden Boundless Glory once for Team Burridge and finished a game second in a Benchmark 83 under 54.5kg behind Martincho Cat.

It should be further added that Makurra was third in this race and she has since raced seven times for three wins (one at G3) and four third placings (one at G3).

Where do you look in this field if it is a pressure content from the outset and becomes a last horse standing shootout the run home?

There are two Michael Freedman trained runners in the race resuming with opposing draws but the ability of each is not in doubt.

Freedman is making the premiership leader Mark Walker keep looking over his shoulder and is just two behind starting this evening.

Machfive has a good draw and gets a 2kg claim so could be helped by a frantic run race as at 51.5kg the son of Not A Single Doubt will use the good gate properly.

The likely overs is the expensive runner for bettors last campaign more than once in Empire Bay that ran at G2 the last time he started.

Empire Bay has drawn wide tonight but with Alan Munro atop you will get a cagey ride for sure with plenty of thought put into how he will handle the son of Iffraaj.

It was a moral beaten fresh up last campaign after leaping in the air at the start and then finished second at his next two starts from on the pace each time with one time coming when gassed wide to the home turn throughout.

Two trials recently for Empire Bay and Munro has been aboard each time plus the Englishman has ridden it once on raceday for a win.

The alignment in the stars says Supernova will put on a show for punters that will both entertain and put some profit into their pockets.

California Eagle looks the likely quinella as Moreira will be in for a good night on the Kok runners.

Overs chasers that only want value need look no further than Empire Bay.

Enjoy the bright light show at Singapore.
