Aghamore drops back in grade and looks hard to go past when lining up in the Benchmark 70 XXXX Gold South Muswellbrook Sprint (1000m) today.
The Tod Howlett-trained runner resumed in good order with a win at Port Macquarie before stepping up in grade to run a solid third at Gosford last start over 1100m.
Aghamore drops back to the 1000m today and the blinkers will go back on, having raced without them in both runs this campaign.
From barrier 2, the four-year-old gelding will get a good run off the pace and top country jockey Robert Thompson goes back on, having missed the placings just twice from 10 rides.
From two previous third up efforts, the son of More Than Ready has finished in the money on both occasions and his win two starts back rates very well on weight adjusted Timeform ratings.
Mighty Obvious from the John McNair yard resumes and also drops in grade, having run in metropolitan company for most of last preparation.
Does not posses the strongest record when fresh, but will more than likely push forward from the inside draw and give them all something to catch. Likely to be in the finish and looks the main danger.
Setgo has been slightly disappointing this time in, well accounted for when third at Hawkesbury two back before beating just the one runner home at Hawkesbury last start, pulling up lame.
Does his best racing over the 1000m dash and on best form is likely to be thereabouts in a race like this.
Kalahari Princess also rates a mention, coming into this on the back of a last start win at Tamworth.
Comes up against a few handy provincial and metropolitan runners but with only 54kg to carry and Greg Ryan in the saddle is not to be discounted.
Outside of these Urania Crown looks the best of the rest but has failed to win in 587 days now and place looks best.
