Coronet Set To Peak Back In Trip

3 minute read

The David Hill trained Coronet Peak appears far better placed at Singapore on Friday night and is expected to break back into the winner's stall in the eighth event.

Having been tried over the mile last start the son of Kahal simply didn't see out the trip and is expected to show sharp improvement dropping back in trip when set to line up over 1200m.

Although not disgraced last start it is clear his best form has been seen over the sprinting trips and he should prove more comfortable on Friday night.

In nine previous attempts over this distance range, Coronet Peak has placed in eight including three victories.

His record on the polytrack also reads very well for his chances having placed in all bar one of his nine attempts.

Leading rider Alan Munro also links back aboard having placed in all 10 attempts aboard the lightly raced six-year-old including four victories.

Munro currently sits second in the Singapore Jockey Premiership and boasts a handy record with the Hill stable currently striking at 21%.

Given just over three weeks between his last run, Coronet Peak appears well placed on Timeform weight adjusted ratings.

On career best form he is rated clear of his nearest rival One Smart Cat and if able to produce a near peak performance he should prove very hard to beat.

In the smallish field, tactics appear to be vital with Munro likely to roll forward on Coronet Peak from the awkward draw.

A victor of four of his 15 career starts it is clear he races at his best when allowed to stride forward as he as only won once when coming from off the speed.

With the John O'Hara trained Flash Gift drawn on his inside, Coronet Peak is likely to roll forward and cross his rival upon settling.

From the inside draw One Smart Cat is also expected to bounce out and roll forward which could prove a bit of a concern for Munro as he might have to do a bit of work to find the rail.

Nonetheless Coronet Peak does possess the best early speed, judging by his last couple of outings and should find the front shortly after the start.

His best wins have been seen when allowed to roll along out in front before quickening in the straight and digging in deep to hold off his rivals.

Given there isn't a lot between the top couple it is expected to be one of the highlight races of the night with Coronet Peak coming out on top.

One Smart Cat proved no match for the talented Let Go Lenni last start however that sole piece of form does see him well placed in this affair.

Having won well first up when leading throughout at this track and trip, One Smart Cat was successful in recording a new career peak last start when finishing fourth on the turf track.

In what was a sharp improvement from his second up effort when plain behind Cheetah On Fire, Shane Baertschiger has done a great job with his four-year-old if able to hold his form he appears one of the main threats.

Much like Coronet Peak, One Smart Cat has also proved to have a liking for the polytrack having placed in nine of his 13 attempts including five victories.

Adding to that he does appear very placed after the three kilogram claim and looks to get all the favours from the inside draw.

If able to track Coronet Peak in running he should have the last crack and could prove very hard to hold out over the concluding stages.

The John O'Hara trained Flash Gift appears the next in line following a solid performance behind Golden Sand Steed last start.

Settling fourth in running the son of Lawyer Ron stuck to his task solidly and while allotted the topweight on Friday night he still appears capable of making his presence felt.

In nine previous attempts on the polytrack he has placed in six including four victories and isn't rated far off the top hopes here.

Likely to kick up and force Coronet Peak to work to cross him early he should lob into a beautiful spot just off the speed and hit the line strongly in the straight.

Of the rest the Stephen Burridge trained Joyous Express appears capable of pulling out a solid run fresh following some handy performances last time in.

While obviously proven to be better over further his form over the mile last time in stacks right up here on Timeform weight adjusted ratings and if there is good speed on up front it should bring him into the race.

The in-form Manoel Nunes links aboard and his two trials leading up to his have been solid enough and he does appear the next in line.
