Waugh To Call Shots In Home Track Heat

3 minute read

Wyong hosts a hotly contested qualifying heat of the Provincial Championships on Thursday where Kim Waugh boasts a strong hand.

A near capacity field contests the Provincial Championships Qualifier where Kim Waugh saddles up the top two in betting, His Majesty and Supreme Effort.

Both line up in the event off last start wins and impressive ones at that.

The pair are hard to split however His Majesty was particularly clinical in dispatching of his rivals first up at Newcastle.

It was an effortless success by the well bred son of High Chapparal who won by one and a quarter lengths under a hold.

Furthermore, the race had a final 600m of 32.53.

A fortnight later, His Majesty will strip fitter for the Wyong Provincial Championships Qualifier second up and is yet to run out of the money in his three prior second up outings.

The distance rise to the longer sprint journey will also suit the half brother to versatile multiple Group winner Puissance De Lune.

Barrier 14 is hardly ideal however jumping from the 1350m chute, jockey Blake Shinn should have enough time to slot His Majesty in for some cover.

Unbeaten from two outings in partnership, Shinn and His Majesty can maintain this perfect record at Wyong on Thursday afternoon.

Supreme Effort has improved with each run this campaign and last start recorded a career best win when taking out a 1200m Benchmark 85 Handicap at Randwick on February 13.

Form out of the race has since held up well with Meursault winning at Randwick last weekend while a number of also rans such as Religify, My Favourite and Wild ‘n’ Famous either won or came close to doing so in their following outings.

The query against Supreme Effort is the rise to 1350m, a distance which himself and his two siblings to have raced in Supreme Edde and Supreme Effort are all suspect at.

Daisy Duke is chasing a third straight win after successes at both this course and last start at Canterbury.

She rises in class and distance once again but will be fitter third up.

The daughter of Northern Meteor is certainly heading in the right direction and while this is a noticeably step up in grade on her latest efforts, she appears progressive enough to handle it.

Michelle Ritchie’s stable star Better Not Blue resumes after a short but sweet spring campaign which included a Saturday metropolitan success at Canterbury and minor placings at both Randwick and Rosehill.

His effort at Rosehill came over the 1400m.

While not a noted first up performer, the gelding will be doing his best work late.

If the first Provincial Qualifier Heat at Wyong is a sign of things to come, the 2016 Provincial Championships Final at Randwick in April promises to be an excellent event showcase of Provincially-trained gallopers.

His Majesty shapes as a great chance of booking his ticket in the final with a success at Wyong on Thursday afternoon.
