It's Derby Day at Flemington and there are also key meetings at Rosehill, Doomben, Morphettville and Ascot.

Flemington: Race 5 @ 2:25pm
It's one of the biggest, if not the biggest, day on the Australian racing calendar. Derby Day at Flemington never disappoints.

t's a cracking betting card as always this year. The Derby holds up as an interesting contest and the Coolmore Stud Stakes, which has become as much a highlight as the Derby itself in recent times, looks a terrific betting heat with a clash of formlines and opinions.

Our opinion is that the bet of the day lurks in the Coolmore field. Zousain split a pair of star colts in a strong overall rating in the Golden Rose last time and he looks a terrific chance of emulating his father Zoustar and landing the Coolmore on Derby Day.

Rosehill: Race 7 @ 4:10pm
Dawn Dawn is dropping back sharply in grade after contesting a mares Group 3 event at Caulfield first up.

It was a strong display on resuming by the daughter of All Too Hard who settled a long way back but was finding the line well late.

Team Hawkes have sent her back to Sydney for what looks an ideal race second up.

Doomben: Race 8 @ 5:09pm
Mishani Electra made an encouraging return to the track a fortnight ago when she was a close second at this course.

She showed good speed to lead on that occasion and fought on strongly before being edged out in the closing stages.

She should be a fitter mare with that run under the belt and has won second up before, also possessing a 50 per cent strike rate at this distance and winning her only 1110m run at this course.

Morphettville: Race 1 @ 1:11pm
The day begins with a horse called Ocean Essence who gets a chance to be winning at metro level, especially now back into 3yo company.

The son of Ocean Park has been solid in Victoria but given that breeding has been crying out for more ground.

He is well placed after the 2kg claim for Chris Caserta and maybe they ride him that little bit closer this time.

It’s an even looking field but that factor of being more along staying lines will see him attacking the line. Read More

Ascot: Race 3 @ 5:04pm
The Team Williams trained Festival Miss was upstaged in her return, however there was plenty of merit in her performance and she should prove very hard to beat at Ascot on Saturday.

Due to contest the second event, Festival Miss was only narrowly edged out first up, when finishing second behind the progressive The Ninth Hour.

Both gallopers were key sectional mark ups and produced performances well above the bare form, her debut win last preparation also suggests as much.

On the relatively quick turnaround (10 days), she sets up well and shouldn't be too far off them from the middle draw.
