Sun Marshal To Shine

3 minute read

The Lee Freedman trained Sun Marshal did a really good job in his Singapore debut and now appears poised to break through in the seventh race this evening.

Jockey Vlad Duric Picture: Racing and Sports

Formerly based in Australia under the care of the Waterhouse and Bott stable, Sun Marshal was Group 3 placed behind Heavenly Thought in the Grand Prix [2200m] at Doomben.

He notably finished ahead of Dark Dream on that occasion and is certainly a talent when right.

Lining up over 1400m in his Singapore debut, Sun Marshal was only narrowly edged out and showed good fight under Duric.

Sure to derive plenty of improvement from that effort, Sun Marshal has since been given two trials, most recently finishing sixth behind Kratos.

The step up to the mile is a big tick and the fact Duric sticks is another push for his chances.

The wide draw is another tick as it should allow Duric to roll on the four-year-old and give him his chance to come across and take it up.

When assessing Timeform weight adjusted ratings, he holds a clear edge over his rivals and should prove very hard to beat.

On best form he is a serious contender in the Group 1 Singapore Derby and suspect this evening's race will be a good stepping stone for him.

The Lee Freedman stable is in good form at present and suspect Sun Marshal can continue that trend.

The James Peters trained Destroyer Eclipse surprised a few when winning last start (SP: 40-1), but suspect there was no fluke in that win and he remains under strong notice.

A winner of three of his 14 starts, he has placed in five of his last 11 and although drawn off the track, he still holds solid claims with Moor booked.

Stablemate Black Jade is racing in good form and also has to be respected from the favourable draw.

A good winner two back, he confirmed that level of performance last start when finishing second behind Heliosphere.

Looks to get a charmed run from the inside draw and should be in this for a long way.

Of the rest the Bruce Marsh trained Absolute Miracle appears the next in line.

Rock solid in two starts to begin this preparation, he should be right at his peak racing third up and although drawn out, he should be strong late.

Good luck and happy punting.
