Good Spell For National Winner
The jumping pride of the south has earned the rest of the year off.
Gargamel went straight to the paddock on his return to Winton after his upset win in the Grand National Hurdles.
“He’s great and pulled up really well, but we won’t be asking him to do anything else until next year,” trainer and part-owner Leda Beck said.
“We might look at going north next year for the Northern, be it the hurdles or the steeples.”
Road To The Bay To Sydney
Promising three-year-old Road To The Bay has been transferred to Chris Waller’s Rosehill stable.
“He hasn’t been sold, the owners have sent him over and it’s a shame to lose him but realistically he can run over there for an awful lot more money,” former trainer Nigel Tiley said.
A son of Road To Rock, Road To The Bay placed in two of his three juvenile starts for the Pukekohe horseman last season.
Caduceus Looking Good For New Season
Listed Champagne Stakes winner Caduceus is making good progress toward his return to racing.
“He’ll trial at the end of the month and will head to Ruakaka for the Westbury Stud Challenge Stakes,” co-trainer Paul Shailer said.
“He put on about 40 or 50 kilos while he was out and he’d only need to improve a length or two to be a serious three-year-old contender.”
Caduceus, who beat subsequent winner Cousin Colin on debut before he won the Champagne at Ellerslie, is on a path toward the Gr.1 NZ 2000 Guineas with the Gr.1 VRC Derby also an option.
Waikato Stallion Parade Weekend
Thoroughbred enthusiasts will have the opportunity to get up close and personal with New Zealand’s best sires at the JLT Bloodstock Waikato Stallion Parade Weekend on August 23 and 24.
The tour is open to the public and features parades of local thoroughbred stallions, including new arrivals Shamexpress, Jakkalberry and Sweet Orange.
Saturday kicks off at 9.00am and features Hallmark Stud (light breakfast provided), Cambridge Stud, Brighthill Farm (light lunch will be provided), Rich Hill Stud, The Heights, Mapperley Stud and Waikato Stud.
The annual JLT Breeder of the Month dinner will take place at Longlands Farm and Restaurant in Matamata on Saturday night.
Sunday will begin at Chequers Stud at 10.30am followed by Linwood Park, The Oaks Stud (light lunch will be provided), Windsor Park Stud, Paxton Park, Bluegables and Highview Stud.
