Ina Canta redeemed himself at Trentham on Monday after a less than glorious display on his first trip to the races.
The Awapuni youngster was a late scratching on debut after he reared in the gates and dislodged rider Jonathan Riddell before careering away, but all was forgiven on Monday when he won the New World Stokes Valley 2YO.
In a driving finish, the colt responded to strong riding from Riddell to nab the front-runner Morse Code on the post.Ina Canta is owned and trained by Gary Vile, who purchased the youngster out of Little Avondale Stud’s Select Sale draft to Karaka last year for $37,500.
“He had trialled up nicely and it was just a shame he was a bit naughty at his first start at Woodville,” he said.“He stuck his head out and had a go today and I think he’s got a very, very bright future. He’s a great little doer and that’s a Per Incanto trait – I’ve got three of them and they are all good eaters.”
Little Avondale’s Street Cry stallion has now left five winners from seven runners and will be represented by Dal Cielo and Bella Court in Sunday’s Listed Karaka Million.Vile also won the Rating 75 event with Stowaway and he’s hoping his Trentham double is a forerunner to further success in this Saturday’s Gr.2 Platinum Homes Wellington Cup. He will have both Ransomed and Anniesstar in the feature.
“Ransomed felt the track at Awapuni at his last start and we’ll probably run him in rubber-lined plates and he drops down to 56kg,’ he said.“Anniesstar is absolutely flying and she’s as fit as I can possibly get her.”
