Group One performer Savvy Dreams is showing the benefit of a good break.
“She looks fantastic and a lot bigger and stronger. Her mother got better with age as well,” said Guy Lowry, who prepares the daughter of Savabeel with Grant Cullen.
“She’ll be coming back in the stable at the beginning of October.”Savvy Dreams quickly progressed from her maiden win last term to finish runner-up in the Gr.2 Lowland Stakes (2100m) before she ran third behind the subsequent Gr.1 ATC Oaks (2400m) winner Bonneval in the Gr.1 New Zealand Oaks (2400m).
She then went to South Australia where her best performance was a fourth in the Gr.1 SA Derby (2500m) at Morphettville.“She had a long preparation and there was no need to get her going for the early spring,” Lowry said.
“We’re giving her every chance to get over her trip to Adelaide where she didn’t have a lot of luck.”Lowry has already mapped out a tentative programme for Savvy Dreams to follow later this year.
“There’s a twilight meeting here at Hastings on December 14 and she could run in the Rating 75 over 1200m,” he said.“She’ll probably then go to 1400m or a mile somewhere and we’d like to have a look at the Gr.1 Thorndon Mile at Trentham.”
Savvy Dreams was accompanied on her Australian venture by Lamborghini, who has remained across the Tasman after weighing in twice from his three South Australian appearances. The Shinko King gelding is now with Patrick Payne and finished sixth at Flemington in his only appearance so far for the Victorian trainer.
