Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs will play a strong hand in the feature event at Wednesday’s meeting at Ellerslie and Comin’through has been tipped as their trump card.
The Ruakaka trainers will be represented by the improving four-year-old, who will be joined in the Barfoot & Thompson Twilight Cup (1500m) by Romancer and Toorak Tower.
“Obviously, Comin’through is a stayer and on his way to get over more ground and it’s hard to pick one, but I’d go for him,” Gibbs said. The son of Bullbars resumed on the course two runs back and put in a strong performance to finish third before he was unplaced at Pukekohe.
“It was a run to put a line through, he was second up and ran like it,” Gibbs said. “He’s a lot better than that and he likes Ellerslie.”Comin'through showed his potential last season when he beat the older horses twice on the track before a trip to Australia where he ran fourth in the Gr.3 Grand Prix Stakes (2200m) and fifth in the Gr.1 Queensland Derby (2200m).
“Romancer will have the blinkers on for the first time and a little bit of rain would help him, he doesn’t let down like he can on hard tracks,” Gibbs said.He won on a Dead 5 at Avondale in his first appearance for the season before he finished fourth on a Good 3 at Ellerslie.
The third member of the trio Toorak Tower has been racing genuinely after a break with minor placings in each of his last four starts.“We’ve spaced his races and keep him fresh, he races better like that,” Gibbs said.
