Energia Davos heads Chapple-Hyam assault

3 minute read

Newmarket handler Jane Chapple-Hyam is preparing her two stable stars for All-Weather Championships Finals Day at Lingfield Park on Good Friday, March 25.

Energia Davos is being aimed at the £200,000 Coral Easter Classic over 10 furlongs. The seven-year-old joined Chapple-Hyam in the summer, having previously been with Marco Botti, and made the perfect start for the yard when capturing a mile handicap at Ascot in September.

He failed to fire in the nine-furlong Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket, but caused a 40/1 shock next time out when outpointing Ladbrokes Mile runner-up Sovereign Debt in the Group Three Darley Stakes over the same course and distance on October 10.

Energia Davos was eighth to Dylan Mouth on his latest start in the Group One Premio Roma GBI Racing at Capanelle, Italy, on November 8.

The Brazilian-bred will get his All-Weather Championships campaign underway in the Coral Conditions Stakes over 10 furlongs at Lingfield Park tomorrow, Wednesday, December 2.

Chapple-Hyam said: "Energia Davos was just unfortunate last time out. You would think going to Italy at this time of year that there would be plenty of juice in the ground, but it was the firmest ground I have seen for a long time. He didn't let himself down in the last couple of furlongs and Pat Smullen looked after him.

"Energia Davos has proven himself around Lingfield and we are running him tomorrow to set him up for the Listed race he was second in last December. He needs the three runs to qualify and after that we will be looking at the Winter Derby and then hopefully Good Friday.

"He has been to Dubai in the past but I feel, given he's an older horse now, that the dirt surface there would be too jarring for him. We have got this great series going on in England now and we know he likes the Polytrack, so let's have a go."

The Twisler is set to test his credentials for the £150,000 32Red All-Weather Marathon in a Fast-Track Qualifier at Wolverhampton on December 12.

The three-year-old posted a career-best when beating Fun Mac, who subsequently placed in Group One company, by three lengths in the Listed March Stakes over 14 furlongs at Goodwood on August 29.

The Twisler travelled to France for his two most recent starts, finishing fifth to Vazirabad in the Group Two Prix Chaudenay at Longchamp in October before filling the same position in a Listed race at Saint-Cloud on November 20.

Chapple-Hyam added: "The Twisler ran well in seriously hot company at Longchamp on Arc weekend. We got held up by the tragedies in Paris before his last run in Saint-Cloud and we thought that, as we had travelled over, we would take our chance.

"The horse is in good order and the Fast-Track Qualifier at Wolverhampton will be his last run of the year. He will have a well-deserved break after that.

"We are looking forward to seeing how he gets on around a tight track like Wolverhampton. If he doesn't qualify for Good Friday but still runs a good race, the Chester Cup could be an early target for him."
