Shyron made the most of a little leniency from the assessor to end a 20-race losing streak in the Play Starburst Slot At sunbets.co.uk/vegas Handicap at Lingfield.
The six-year-old's last success had come at the Surrey venue in March 2016 and a return to his happy hunting ground resulted in a fourth course and distance triumph.
Trainer George Margarson felt the way the race was run helped Shyron (5-1) go one better in this race than 12 months ago, as did an astute ride by Jane Elliott.
The 5lb claimer spotted a gap on the far rail in the straight and her willing partner quickened up in the final furlong to score by half a length from Right Touch.
"It's good he's got back to form. It's been a long while," said Margarson.
"After winning two handicaps he got slammed by the handicapper. He won his last race off 90 and he's only just gone down to 82.
"Everything fell right for him today. They went a good pace and the gaps opened on the rail for him.
"He's won a nice pot today and there's a couple of better races coming up. I'll be glad to get him into better handicaps."
Goring (11-2) scooted clear in the final furlong under Charles Bishop to take the Play For Free At sunbets.co.uk/vegas Handicap for the Eve Johnson Houghton stable.
Johnson Houghton said: "That's his third win this year and I'm thrilled with him as he's such a bonny horse who travels well and tries hard.
"We stepped him back up to a mile today and I think that just helped him travel that bit better.
"I think there might be another race for him back at Lingfield at the end of the month, but I'll get him home and have a proper look at the programme book."
The Alex Hales-trained Take Two (9-2) defied top-weight in the hands of Martin Harley to take the the Betway Casino Handicap.
D ash Of Spice (4-7 favourite), trained by David Elsworth, made it third time lucky with a comfortable victory under Sean Levey in the Betway Maiden Stakes
Smart apprentice Nicola Currie steered Mark Usher's Bayston Hill (5-2 favourite) to victory in division one of the Betway Handicap, while Jeremy Scott's Miss Minuty (16-1) got up close home to collar Squire and snatch the spoils in division two under 7lb claimer Jason Watson.
