Returning filly lost nothing in defeat at Royal Ascot
Connections of Veracious have not yet firmed up future plans for the exciting filly following her fine effort in defeat at Royal Ascot.
Having been ruled out of the 1000 Guineas in May after suffering a minor setback, Sir Michael Stoute’s charge instead made her first start since winning a Newmarket maiden last October in the Coronation Stakes.
After cutting out much of the running under Frankie Dettori, the daughter of Frankel eventually weakened to finish a creditable third behind the hugely impressive Alpha Centauri.
Chris Richardson, managing director of owner-breeders Cheveley Park Stud, said: “I’ve been away and Sir Michael has been away as well, so I haven’t had chance to have a proper catch up with him yet, but she ran a great race and we’re very proud of her.
“It wasn’t really the intention to make the running, but it was her first run for quite a while and we felt she’d be a bit gassy, so we thought we’d let her stride on rather than hold her up and have her fighting for her head.
“I’m not saying she would have beaten the winner in any case – I think she would possibly have beaten the colts.”
Veracious has several options should Stoute decide to keep her at the highest level.
The three-year-old holds entries in the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on July 13, the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood on August 2 and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on September 15.
