Sounds Of Heaven edged out the fast-finishing Queen For You in a competitive renewal of the 1m Listed Michael Seely Memorial Fillies' Stakes at York on Friday.
A general 16/1 shot for the race, Sounds Of Heaven was making her seasonal reappearance after winning a fifteen runner Leopardstown maiden in October over a mile. Trained by Jessica Harrington, the filly had an easy passage through the race, tracking leader Stormy Seas as they straightened up. She kept on gamely to deny Queen For You by a short head with Silver Lady a further neck back in third.
Queen For You had to switch to the far side to make her run and closed quickly, despite being hampered by Silver Lady and hanging right in the final stages. There looks to be further improvement to come from the Gosden's filly. Similar comments apply to Godolphin's Silver Lady, who was very keen in the early parts of the race.
In a post race interview with ITV Racing, jockey Ronan Whelan said: "She's a very straightforward, uncomplicated filly. If anything, I got there a little bit too easy and she got a little bit lonely in the last little bit but she's so honest. Jessie and the team had her in great nick coming over here and it's nice to come over and get the job done.
Yeah, I think she will [go further]. I think as the year goes on she's a filly that's going to step up in trip. Look, that's her first run and go with me, so she'll improve and she's an exciting filly."
