Wednesday Preview: Lingfield

3 minute read

With seven fixtures taking place across the UK and Ireland on Wednesday, there is plenty of competitive action. The all-weather at Lingfield has attracted good-sized fields across the card, especially in the seven-furlong handicap.

Racecourse : Lingfield Park (Great Britain)

How Impressive is the eye-catcher in the 7f Class 5 Download The Bresbet App Handicap (4:25) for trainer Hugo Palmer and jockey Oisin Murphy. Although the gelding has not been seen on the all-weather since the start of the year, he boasts a good record on the surface with a win and two placings from five attempts. The four-year-old's recent turf form would put him firmly in the mix nonetheless, including a good third at Haydock over seven furlongs when the visor was applied for the first time alongside a tongue-tie. Although not in flying form, the Hugo Palmer team have sent out three winners in the past fortnight and How Impressive is expected to be firmly in the mix.

WIN: HOW IMPRESSIVE

In the first division of the 7f Class 5 Stream Racing At bresbet.com/EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes (3:52), Briar Rose is expected to improve for her debut fifth at Windsor. Things did not go right for the two-year-old filly, as she repeatedly struggled for room in the closing two furlongs. Jockey Billy Loughnane reported that he dropped his right-hand rein in the final half-a-furlong which would not have helped the inexperienced Briar Rose either. The daughter of Outstrip probably ran well to finish three-and-a-half lengths behind Miss Mach One given the circumstances, and the winner has boosted the form by subsequently finishing second at Southwell on Monday.

WIN: BRIAR ROSE

In the second division of the 7f Class 5 Stream Racing At bresbet.com/EBF Restricted Maiden Fillies' Stakes (6:05), it is hoped that the experience of Tokyo Dreamer will mean the filly can achieve a long-awaited maiden victory. She boasts seven racecourse starts compared to her less-exposed rivals and has finished in the frame five times, including a close second with first-time cheek-pieces applied at Epsom Downs last start. The daughter of Advertise has been producing consistent performances, and her experience on the all-weather (third over course and distance in June) should be a distinct advantage.

WIN: TOKYO DREAMER

Although likely to start favourite, Starstriker is the stand-out option in the 5f Class 5 Great Prices On Bresbet.com Maiden Stakes (5:00). Trained by Wesley Ward in the USA as a juvenile, the filly was transferred to James Ferguson at the start of the year and made a pleasing UK debut when runner-up in a Windsor novice over five furlongs under Oisin Murphy. The daughter of Zoustar was always prominent and had to fight hard in the closing stages, eventually denied by a nose behind Cover Up. She should improve for the experience and has the expertise of Oisin Murphy again for her first run on the all-weather.

WIN: STARSTRIKER
