Sam King’s Horse Racing Tips Today

Sam King returns with three selections on Thursday including two at Lingfield.

Today's horse racing tips

Lingfield hosts nine races on the all-weather this afternoon So Sleepy should be going close in the Follow AtTheRaces On Twitter Handicap (2.10).

The Muir & Grassick-trained three-year-old made a winning debut over course and distance back in August last year and returned to the Surrey venue for the first time since when third over the same track and trip recently.

The daughter of Oasis Dream missed the kick that day but ran on strongly from the rear of the field off a steady gallop and was only three-quarters of a length behind the prominently positioned winner.

There should be a bit more pace on in today's contest with the likes of last year's winner Sparked, last-time-out scorer Rewilding, and We're Reunited all likely to be pushing the early tempo.

It should pay to be positioned more towards the rear today and racing off the same mark from a draw where Callum Shepherd can get cover, she should be right in contention over her favoured course and distance.

Selection: So Sleepy – General 11/4

Later on the Lingfield card, Star Of Epsom looks to hold every chance in the Free Tips Daily On attheraces.com Handicap back over a course and distance she's three from four at.

Pat Phelan's charge could never get involved when seventh over a mile here last-time-out but that run came after a short break and she'll surely have come on for the outing fitness-wise.

Stepping back up to the mile and a quarter is an obvious positive, whilst the 1lb drop in the weights puts her just 2lb above her last winning mark.

Paddy Bradley knows this mare well and from a good draw in stall three, the daughter of Sir Percy may be capable of getting back to winning ways.

Selection: Star Of Epsom – General 10/3

We head to Salisbury for our third and final wager. It's Haymaker who catches the eye in the Colin Ponting Memorial Handicap (4.30) and I'm hoping the drop in class can see Hughie Morrison's charge back in the winners' circle.

He produced a creditable effort when ninth in the Class 2 Portland Handicap on soft ground at Doncaster last time and continues to slide down to a very workable mark. A rating of 85 puts him back on the same mark as when scoring at Windsor earlier in the season and with soft conditions no bother, indeed really a positive, he certainly looks to have plenty of positives surrounding his chances.

It's fairly common for jockeys to manoeuvre over towards the stands' side when the ground is soft at Salisbury, and if that's the case this afternoon, then Haymaker could prove well-drawn out in stall eleven.

Selection: Haymaker – General 4/1
