On a busy day of racing after the excitement of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe weekend, Thomas Hodgson provides a selection from Yarmouth…

Today's horse racing tips

Roger Varian's Sarmiento Power makes plenty of appeal in the sixteen-runner 1m3½f Free Digital Racecard At raceday-ready.com Handicap (16:35). The King Power owned-three-year-old finished off his race very strongly last time out at Newcastle, posting sub-twelve second sectionals when hitting the two-furlong pole, and shaped as though he was appreciating an additional stamina test.

In a race lacking any obvious class angle, the gelding is an unexposed sort, having only raced once in the second part of the year. After a fairly quiet start to the campaign in May and June, where he made no impression over seven furlongs around undulating Salisbury, Chepstow and Newbury, a decision was made to undertake a gelding operation.

This, in combination with a step up in trip to 1m2f, seems to have done the trick. An easy 1m3f around flat Yarmouth, with emphasis on the extra furlong, could be just what is needed to get the best out of the son of Churchill.

6/1 is generally available, which seems perfectly fair in a big field handicap.
