Tip Of The Day: 11th October 2024

3 minute read

The team have two selections today, one over jumps in Ireland, and an exciting handicap prospect from York.

Today's horse racing tips.

Look Back Smiling looks ideally bred for testing conditions at York, and runs in the 1 mile William Hill Top Price Guarantee Autumn Handicap (1:30). Statistically, progeny of Fast Company enjoy a level stakes profit of +£0.65 at SP when backing them blind. This is reaffirmed in the formbook, as Gemma Tutty's charge's three career wins on turf have come on heavy or soft ground. As we get to the back end of the flat season, it wouldn't be entirely surprising to see him pick up a decent pot off a mark of 87.

Habitually slow out of the stalls, the gelding's seventh in a quality renewal of the Cambridgeshire Handicap at Newmarket deserves more attention considering the two-length advantage he gave away to the field at the start. With a good break, and a smaller field in lesser company, one can expect some improvement.

Gemma Tutty and Joanna Mason could prove to be a useful combination here too, with both posting positive P&Ls around the Knavesmire. The pair have already achieved a winner together at York this season, and look poised to go well again at a sporting price.

Rebecca Menzies
sends horses to Ireland for the first time on Friday at Downpatrick. In the 2m5f Dennis Macauley Memorial Handicap Hurdle (4:30), she has You Some Girl, who carries a feather weight off the back of a creditable third at Hexham when out of the weights.

The Menzies yard arrives here in red hot form, having posted 35 winners already this season and it may be worth noting that Downpatrick bears some resemblance to Hexham, as a left-handed undulating track.

Menzies' mare was backed to run better than her performance would indicate last time but caught the eye staying on after being held up the whole way round. Off a mark of 80, she could be set to take advantage.

These raids don't pay for themselves, and You Some Girl represents the best chance of some Irish prize money heading east of Portpatrick all day.
