Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Rosehill Race 2 - 1 Mohave

Well placed in this grade considering this will be only the second time in 10 career starts that he has not run in a Group or Listed race. His overall form for this class is excellent considering he has mixed it with many of the G1 stars contesting the Coolmore Stud Stakes at Flemington and he would not have been out of place in that field. Ready to peak third up after his recent efforts at Canterbury and Randwick when a creditable fifth in behind Kuro in the Brian Crowley. Drops sharply in class and carries less weight after the 2kg claim for the flying Winona Costin.

Rosehill Race 5 - 8 Lucky Raquie

Last season’s Black Opal Stakes winner is ideally placed to make a bold return after trialling well within herself to win a 900m trial at Rosehill on October 14. Raced in top Group company through the autumn when her only real failures were on seriously rain affected tracks. She’s going to carry half a kilo under the limit after the claim for Lester Grace and that is a handy weight in this class for a filly with her Group form.

Rosehill Race 6 - 6 Frespanol

Expect to see this up and coming gelding take up the running in this even field and prove hard to run down as he can only be fitter for his strong first-up win over 1400m on the Kensington track at Randwick on October 6. He has missed a place only once in eight starts and appeals as a 4YO likely to improve quickly through the classes during the summer.
