Chris Scholtz - Early Thoughts

R&S Contributing Editor Chris Scholtz takes a look at tomorrow’s Sydney racing.

SELECTIONS

Randwick Race 3 - 3 Interlocuter

Unlucky to lose a race of similar class to this on protest after he was first past the post over 1400m at Rosehill on September 9 when having first start since May.

It was an excellent return by this lightly-raced import who has had just six starts and clearly has the potential to rise to above this class.

He has since had a maintenance barrier trial at Randwick to fit him for the 1600m in what looks an ideal race for him as he progresses towards longer races.

Randwick Race 4 – 10 Dia De Reyes

He’s one of three entries in this Highway event from the strong Matt Dunn stable and only needs to jump on terms to be a big threat to his favoured stablemate Cascata Rossa with a 4kg weight advantage.

Can be risky at the barrier but his recent efforts over 1600m in Queensland have been impressive for a race of this class, running on strongly after slow starts to be beaten a nose at the Sunshine Coast before a closing fourth at Doomben. Should get his chance on this big track.

Randwick Race 8 - 2 Dixie Blossoms

Looking to go back to back in this race and should the one to beat with the better draw and weights in her favour to turn the tables on her stablemate Daysee Doom after their 1-2 finish in the Golden Pendant over 1400m at Rosehill on September 23.

Meets Daysee Doom 1kg better for that short neck loss and getting out to 1600m third up is an ideal fit for this quality mare to add to her super Randwick record, having never missed a place on her home course in five starts.

BLACKBOOK UPDATE from 30 September (Horses to follow at their next three starts)

Kementari - He’s a work in progress. Best to come.

Sovereign Nation - In good form for coming assignments.

Tangled - Luckless under big weight. Longer distances will suit.

Fiesta - Will be amazed if this filly doesn’t win races.

Lizzie L’Amour - A Valley victim. Should have been in the finish.

Jalan Jalan - There’s a win coming in her right class.

Clearly Chosen - Obviously going well for his new stable.

Rich Charm - No favours first-up. Carnival banker.

Gallic Chieftain - Capable stayer working up to his right trip.

Recent Blackbook winners - Kiwia; Chamois Road; Dracarys; Mariquita; Tango Rain; Pariah; Victory Downs; Bergerac; Screamarr; Brave Smash; Almandin; Hardham; Harlem; Sin To Win; Foundry.
