Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Nowra, Armidale, Flemington, Warwick, Devonport and Bairnsdale.

NOWRA: RACE 5 @ 3:45 PM

SUNRISE (1) is fitter for two runs back and showed some nice improvement at Hawkesbury last week. Down in grade here and chance to break through. DAME ANNIE (7) wasn't fancied in the betting when she led all the way to an easy maiden win at Gundagai. If she can repeat the effort she's in the finish. SPENCER'S SPIRIT (3) was placed first-up last time in and has trialled quite well leading into this. One to keep an eye on. POINT OUT (2) and RAINAGAIN (6) have to be included.
SELECTIONS: Sunrise to win.

ARMIDALE: RACE 5 @ 4:09 PM

LEASE (1) will appreciate the drop in grade and gets his chance here with the 2kg claim. Faded late when taken to the front from the wide gate finishing seventh over 1600m at Wyong in BM64 class on September 6. Can bounce back in this contest. WANDA RIVER (3) two runs back have been encouraging and looks ready for this stiffer test. Won well first up before covering ground from the wide gate when third over 1300m at Moree on September 1. Fitter now and can give this a shake. MAJOR MAKEOVER (7) was five weeks between runs when a plodding sixth over 1400m at Tamworth on August 27. Lone win came over this trip and strips fitter now. CHESTERAY (5) returned to winning form two back before tiring quickly when eighth over 1280m at Muswellbrook on September 10. Out to his pet trip and gets plenty of favours with the claim from the inside gate.
SELECTIONS: Lease to win.

FLEMINGTON: RACE 6 @ 4:25 PM

STYLISH SECRET (1) caught the eye at Moonee Valley last start behind the in-form Evaporate, getting back in the field but running on nicely late to grab second. He looks a genuine stayer who can prove hard to beat at each way odds. GIDDY UP WARRIOR (2) was a smart maiden winner at Sandown Hillside last time out over 1500m as favourite. He's certainly bred to get over more ground and maps well here. LAVALIER (4) also brings Evaporate form having run third to that horse last start over 1523m at Moonee Valley. He's a promising type who will take beating. LARIO (6) resumed with a soft maiden win at Geelong as favourite and can measure up. POLITELY DUN (5) is still a maiden but isn't hopeless at all.
SELECTIONS: Stylish Secret on top.

WARWICK: RACE 1 @ 11:43 AM

EXPLOSIVE DRAGON (2) is unlucky to still be a maiden hitting the top-four at his past four outings and strikes a very winnable contest here. Tarrant sticks following that last-start runner-up finish and will be at his peak for this. Respect from the Gollan camp. MATERIALIST (8) returned in fine fashion with a handy second over this track and trip and will have come on with that run under the belt. Looms as the main danger. THE BIGBANG THEORY (5) has placed second-up before and put in a career-best performance when resuming. Top-three candidate. PROISETTE (11) never looked likely fresh when always well back. Four weeks between runs, watching for sharp improvement.
SELECTIONS: Explosive Dragon to shed the maiden tag.

DEVONPORT SYNTHETIC: RACE 8 @ 5:30 PM

RALPH THE ROCKET (2) has missed a whisker at her last two on the turf. Draws awkwardly but keeps a gun hoop and rates to go one better. SIR TOROBEEL (4) peaks off two placed efforts on the turf. He just missed here first up and has weight relief. Needs a good ride but can make the finish again. ROWING POWER (3) spikes his figures narrowly beaten at Hobart by Captain Cam. Well in the mix holding that form. EARENDEL (1) trialled well and was too good for the Maidens here Keeps the 2kg claim and the extra metres shouldn't bother. He can keep building.
SELECTIONS: With Ralph The Rocket.

BAIRNSDALE: RACE 7 @ 4:05 PM

ALPINOVA (6) was plainer last time but was narrowly beaten at Wodonga and Moe prior. That's good form and he draws inside today. Gets another chance. ELOHEH (2) resumes and has switched from a NSW barn. She has placed 3/3 first up and is good enough at best. The 2kg claimer will push forward and the mare has to be kept safe. PER IVY (4) won a Moe 52 and was cruelled by a wide gate here following. She's in the mix. BEAUKATI (13) returns and can make her presence felt.
SELECTIONS: Alpinova to win.
