Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for August 23.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings are today held at Canberra, Murwillumbah, Ipswich and Geelong.
CANBERRA ACTON: RACE 7 @ 4:45 PM
EVERIDO (1) resumes for Canberra's premier barn and is proven fresh. He was only beaten 2.3L in the Listed Canberra Guineas earlier in the year and followed that with a 1L defeat in a Randwick 72. That's good form. He jumps from the rail and should be ready to go. RUSSIAN SNITZEL (2) was back to her best beaten a half length in a Canterbury 64. She led in that and is sure to use an inside gate. Looks to have turned the corner and has been kept on the fresh side. SHELLY'S ACE (8) is third-up and has claims. Led and just missed this grade at the Sapphire Coast and has a weight pull over the above pair. Maps well and winning rider Cahill is reunited. MISS BELGIUM (7) will push forward and was much better at Gundagai. Like Penza's booking and she should be around the mark.
SELECTIONS: Everido appeals most.

MURWILLUMBAH: RACE 1 @ 12:45 PM
SHERRIFF CODY (4) racing in a rich vein of form after saluting at Grafton two runs back. Jumped in class when a fighting fourth over 2000m at Coffs Harbour on August 2. Looks too sharp for this lot. PEROVIC (5) mixing his form of late and go on his strong win at Lismore three starts back when assessing his chances. Bred to get the extra trip and the drop in weight helps. SIR ZINO (9) record hardly excites and on the quick back-up after finishing seventh over 1900m at the Gold Coast Poly on August 17. Can run into the minor money. I'MTIMMYZOU (8) total forgive from the wide draw when 13th over 2220m at Grafton on August 20. Will appreciate the rain-affected going and has a good record at this track.
SELECTIONS: Sherriff Cody to win.
IPSWICH: RACE 4 @ 1:27 PM
VANGUARD LEGEND (10) resumed in good order placing over this track and trip and will have come on with that run under the belt. Rates a serious player. MOET AT MIDNIGHT (4) will be rock-hard fit for this and looks one for the exotics players. UNEGA WAHY'A (9) placed over this course and distance at the latest effort and gets in well at the weights with the 3kg claim. May earn some minor money again. CAPTAIN GOOD VIBES (2) next in line.
SELECTIONS: Vanguard Legend to break through.
GEELONG: RACE 6 @ 3:30 PM
MAXIMUM POWER (6) is a lightly raced gelding who won his maiden well on resumption before trying hard at Cranbourne in a Class 1 behind Sparkling, who has won again since. Looks nicely placed here. MILBRAE (10) won well as an odds-on favourite at Swan Hill at his third start. More depth here but he's got a nice profile and can measure up. WALTER SPUR (2) wasn't far away here last start when hard in the market having also run well in a BM64 at Sale prior. Right in this. CEEJAY (5) doesn't have the best strike rate but did win fresh at Wodonga. Harder here but can place.
