3 minute read

It’s Winterbottom Stakes Day at Ascot with the second of the Group 1 features headlining the third weekend of The Pinnacles.

Overpass comes back to the west looking to keep his unbeaten record at Ascot alive, with two Listed events and the Regional Championships a lively undercard in what is set to be another great day of racing.

The best part is you can watch all the action live and free on 7Plus and Racing WA

Race 1: RACING TOWARDS BETTER HANDICAP (1800m)

Tricky race to kick things off. LETHAL WEAPON (13) looks a progressive mare having won her last two over shorter trips. The way she races suggests the extra journey won't be an issue and she has the speed to offset the sticky draw. Can work to the front and take plenty of catching again. BORDER FORCE (1) is another looking for a hat-trick of wins, winning here narrowly last time out over the mile. Chris Parnham remains in the saddle and the form out of that race has already been franked. Draws a nice gate and can repeat the dose again. STORMAGEDDON (4) closed off strongly over the mile last start when just missing behind Border Force. Out to this trip for the first time and he looks as though he's been crying out for the extra trip. Sure to be storming home late in the race. LONG GENES (3) disappointed as favourite last time out but only hit his straps last campaign when out to this trip. Expecting improvement. FIOREYES (9) has to be included on the back of a good last start win.

Race 2: SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1800m)

ROYAL TORONADO (6) won well two back before a narrow defeat last start from an impossible position. Back in trip on the quick turnaround is a little niggle, but he has plenty of class and holds a Perth Cup nomination. Can storm over the top to get the job done again. FLY WITH CAUTION (2) is in great form and looks to be trending the right way. Still relatively lightly raced and he was right behind Royal Toronado last time out. Nicely weighted after the claim and he can make his presence felt. THE ROOSTER (11) will take plenty of catching from up front as he draws beautifully along the inside. He just missed last time out over this course and distance and while this is tougher, he looks to be an improving commodity. Will be in this for a long way. ABOVE THE PEG (3) improved last start when running strongly behind a smart one. Can be in the finish once again. KISSES FROM KELLY (5) can be around the mark first-up from a good alley.

Race 3: QUAYCLEAN HANDICAP (1200m)

COMIC HERO (5) was beaten 1L here last week in stronger company when running on strongly from beyond midfield. Chris Parnham remains in the saddle and he is a third-up winner in the past. Goes well at this track and trip and can bounce back to winning ways. OUR ROCKY BAY (4) faded out of the race last start after sitting on the speed throughout, beaten 4.3L over 1400m here. Back to this trip now and he has the speed to press on from out wide. Jordan Childs rides today and he can bounce back to his best. BARNEY'S WORLD (12) will need a touch of luck from the draw but he gets CJP in the saddle today following a bold run last time out. He was 20-1 there, but the figures were strong and he may be better again now third-up. Sure to be in the finish. BONDI PLUNGE (3) wasn't far away last time out over 1400m and drops back in trip today. She's usually around the mark and can be again today. ON PATROL (8) has claims following a solid last start win.

Race 4: TABtouch REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: ROAD TO ASCOT (1200m)

The Regional Championship is here and SURE NO SOMETHING (5) goes on top through the Geraldton heat. He was beaten 2L as favourite there, though he maps for a lovely run in the race and CJP remains in the saddle. He can get back to his best now and land the knockout blow. EEVALINA (1) will carry top weight following a good win in the strong Kalgoorlie heat 28 days ago. She comes into this off a similar set up and Chris Parnham should get every chance off the inside. Can put herself close to the speed and she should go close. SCIENCE DEGREE (11) was right behind Eevalina last start after setting the tempo in front at Kalgoorlie. He now gets Pike in the saddle and he looks a prominent figure from barrier 8. Comes into this on the fresh side but will be in front for a long way. SAFE HUSTLE (6) will be up front from the outset and has claims after beating Sure No Something last start. INVINCIBLE POWER (7) won well at Albany and looks a progressive type. Won't be far away.

Race 5: TABtouch - HAVE YOU GOT THE TOUCH HANDICAP (1200m)

JOKERS GRIN (6) steps up to 1200m for just the second time. His only run over this trip was on debut when beaten. He's won five on-end snice and his last start was very impressive, sitting just off the pace and running away to win. Such an exciting horse who can continue on his winning ways. GENEROSITY (11) got a long way back in the Jungle Mist a fortnight ago but closed off well enough. Her runs prior suggested she was right on the doorstep of another win and she ticks plenty of boxes coming back to this grade. Shouldn't be far away turning for home and can get back to winning ways. HELL I AM (5) made an impression in his western debut when winning comfortably from midfield. Needs a bit of luck from the alley, but there's good speed engaged and he'll want a strong gallop. Can build on the fresh effort and land another blow. AIN'T NO OTHER MAN (8) is racing well at a lower level and has strong claims with Pike riding. SONOFTHEBOSS (12) won't be far away.

Race 6: TABtouch - SIR ERNEST LEE-STEERE CLASSIC (1400m)

WIND AND THE LION (1) is a very progressive talent, running over the top to win the Placid Ark last time out. The rise in trip doesn't look an issue and he maps for a lovely run once again. Looks a nice sprinting prospect for the future and he can add to his record in this race. LONDON'S IMAGE (3) didn't have the best of luck in the Placid Ark when caught wide and without cover before a game effort until late in the W.A. Guineas last week. Now draws a much better gate for Steve Parnham. Ticks a few boxes and will be very hard to run down. MAI ALOHA (8) got a long way back in the Placid Ark and while she did close off well, she was still beaten 2.8L. Drawn wide again today which is a niggle, though Pike remains in the saddle and she won't be far away if she can be a touch closer in the run. SIX SHOOTER (6) is a progressive type on the way through, dominating in easier company last start. Can step up to the plate. SIR DREAMALOT (2) is a niggle at the trip but does have class.

Race 7: ASCEND TROPHIES - JUNGLE DAWN CLASSIC (1400m)

THE BOSS LADY (7) was beaten 2L in the Jungle Mist last start after missing the start with the blinkers on first time. She'll be better for that now and she did jump favourite on that occasion. Parnham remains in the saddle and she's unbeaten third-up in the past. Can turn the tables on BABY PARIS (1) who beat her rivals with pace last time out. She rolled across from gate 11 and led from start to finish. She now draws the inside and she too is a winner third-up. Dominant last start and can win again. LUVNWAR (5) was only fair in the R.J. Peters in a bunched finish after getting the run of the race as favourite. This is easier than that and she'll be fitter again third-up. Needs a touch of luck from the draw but if she'll be hard to beat if she can get back to her best. BONJOY (10) was scratched at the barriers in the Jungle Mist. Had some market support there and she'd trialled well leading in. Big chance. AMBER GLIDE (4) was good last start and now gets Pike in the saddle.

Race 8: MCA POLYTRACK-WINTERBOTTOM STAKES (1200m)

The G1 Winterbottom Stakes and OVERPASS (1) is back to defend his crown. He comes into this off a different set up to usual, with his latest run in the G1 Champions Sprint only fair. His win in the Sydney Stakes was blistering though and if he can get back to that level he should be winning this race again. MAHARBA (5) is a nice galloper on the way up, winning the Rising Fast during cup week down the Flemington Straight. Maps for a lovely run under Childs and he's raced well on the fresh side previously. Ticks a few boxes and profiles nicely. WESTERN EMPIRE (2) didn't have the best of luck in the Colonel Reeves and getting away from the inside is a big tick for his chances. He goes well second-up and he's sure to be strong to the line. Don't forget he jumped favourite in the lead up. BRAVO CENTURION (11) adds a layer of complexity out to 1200m today. Has talent but needs to stretch his speed. LADY LAGUNA (15) has class an should get her chance off the inside.

Race 9: SWAN DRAUGHT HANDICAP (1400m)

MISS SKYHIGH (7) got into a suitable race last start and bolted in over this course and distance, posting good figures in the process. She was always trending the right way and now she may be back on track. Maps for a similar run and can go back-to-back in this suitable race. WUBIN GOLD (5) didn't have the best of luck last start when missing the start and being held up for most of the straight. On the 7-day back up now and drawn wide She clocked some very fast sectionals the start prior and a repeat of that effort should see her winning this. YARRALEA (10) ran over the top to score well as an 18-1 chance last start at this track and trip. She tends to hold her form third-up and she draws better today. Should be in the finish. LIVE TO TELL (3) steps out to this trip for the first time and it may suit her now. Been a while between drinks but she's right back in grade now and can improve. MADAME MAGIC (12) was behind Miss Skyhigh last start and won't be far away again.
