Best From The West - October 11

3 minute read

The return of the Daniel Pearce trained Testamezzo is one of the highlights at Belmont on Saturday, with the four-year-old expected to make a winning return.

A victor of seven of his 10 career starts, the son of Testa Rossa proved most impressive last preparation, with his form virtually faultless.

In four starts, he only tasted defeat once albeit narrowly at Bunbury in the Listed W.A. Breeders' Classic.

Testamezzo is unbeaten first up (3/3), he is unbeaten at the trip (4/4) and is unbeaten at this track (2/2) — he is the official "box-ticker".

His sole trial in the lead up was encouraging and all appears in good order for his return.

Currently installed the $2.10 favourite appears about right, though if priced aggressively using predictive ratings, we can get him as short as $1.70.

It will be interesting to see how the market pans out on raceday, either way we feel he is a fair gamble at his current quote.

Was quite surprised when the prices first came out on Thursday, with the Neville Parnham trained Dancing Express appearing over the odds in the seventh event.

A notable second placing in the W.A. Sire's Produce Stakes prior to a break, the daughter of Oratorio looks well placed despite the hefty weight impost.

Currently installed a 8-1 chance appears more than fair as we can get her as short as 5-2 and while taking on a few promising types, she already has the runs on the board.

Her two trials in the lead up have been solid and while she is likely to be looking for further, she still holds strong claims.

From the awkward draw, she is expected to settle just off midfield and be charging home late right into the finish.

BET OF THE DAY: Race 8 #9 Testamezzo @ $2.10

EACH-WAY PLAY: Race 7 #2 Dancing Express @ $9.00
