Playing up on the Victorian raiders this week as the Adelaide carnival kicks in.

Hardern is a great hope in the Port Adelaide Guineas Picture: Racing and Sports

Having his first run for Darren Weir, giving Monteux a strong chance in the first race.

The former Peter Moody galloper won first up impressively over the 1400m but maybe second up he didn’t enjoy the softer track or was just a tad flat.

His best runs have come on good ground so make sure the track is firm.

While he is bred to stay, he might actually be better suited at this and just a little further.

If there are three place dividends, think we can back him each way.

Initially we really fancied the David Brideoake gelding Burton in the Port Adelaide Guineas but since he’s come out, more than happy to play his stable mate Hardern in the same three year old race.

He’s been up for a long time but doesn’t look like running poorly and if anything will be getting stronger toward an SA Derby.

You only have to go back to the Alister Clark effort when only three lengths off Tally and less off Palentino. Tally, at his following run, ran third in the ATC Australian Derby.

He still seems really good value both totes given the run he will get off the inside.
