Sydney Specials: Rosehill – June 18

3 minute read

Capacity fields through the second half of the program at Rosehill offer up a number of strong each way plays.

The opening race of the quaddie leg is the Benchmark 78 Handicap (1350m) where third time lucky could ring true for Disgraceful.

The Chris Waller-trained gelding has finished second in each of his runs this campaign, the latest over 1400m at Randwick.

He has caught the eye in each of his runs, settling midfield or worse before finding the line well in the straight.

Disgraceful possesses strong third up and distance credentials and is also well adept on rain affected ground.

The son of Redoute’s Choice should receive all of the favours in transit from barrier 1 and the 2kg claim of form apprentice Koby Jennings is also used to good effect.

There is a sense of timing about the five-year-old here and near each way odds about him appeal.

Vanderkemp also goes around at each way odds in the prior event on the program, the tab.com.au Benchmark 74 Handicap (1350m).

The gelding was a first up winner at Wyong before finishing second at Canterbury off a freshen last start.

The winner of that race was the promising Peter Snowden-trained Yuma Desert who has since franked the form out of the race by saluting at Randwick last Saturday.

Vanderkemp is seemingly a great chance of doing the same on Saturday.

The son of Rip Van Winkle should be approaching peak fitness and is proven on rain affected having won first up at Wyong on a heavy track.

He looks very much like a lightly-raced three-year-old on the up and can take another step through the grades here.

Each way odds about the Kris Lees-trained runner in a ten horse field certainly look tempting.
