Brisbane Best - July 9

3 minute read

With the Queensland winter carnival now over, Doomben will play host to an eight race programme on Saturday.

Lauterbrunnen has been racing in terrific form of late and comes off a solid win in the Newmarket (1300m) at Rockhampton last time out, following a second placing at this course.

The Robert Heathcote-trained runner goes back up in trip today where he has a solid record and based on recent efforts looks very hard to beat.

Jim Byrne stays on board and going back up trip today might find himself a bit closer in the run with not a great deal of speed anticipated.

Lauterbrunnen is third up, following a freshen up and certainly looks to have scope for some improvement going up to the 1630m today.

The five-year-old gelding has shown enough in recent times to suggest he will be hard to beat and the $4.80 looks a good bet for a horse with his form.

Lordag who comes out of the same race last start when third looks the main danger along with Hi Son but still expect Lauterbrunnen to prove too good.

Later in the programme I Am Boss looks well suited when he lines up in the Class 6 over 1350m and there is a lot to like about his recent form.

Should get a nice run off the pace from the inside draw and he steps up to the 1350m for the first time and gets in well with the 3kg claim for apprentice jockey.

Rarely out of the finish at the course from 14 previous outings and if he runs up to his recent efforts he will be right in the finish again.

The current price of $5.50 looks a good each way bet and the scratching of Beckham really brings him into it even more.

Brettan and Punta Norte look among the main danger however should I Am Boss run up to his fourth placing over 1200m at this course three back that should be enough to get him over the line.

Good Luck!!
