bet365 Say From SA: Morphettville Parks – Saturday, 29th of June 2024

Lightly raced Great Maximus set to flex his muscle on older horses at Morphettville Parks on Saturday.

The R & C Jolly-trained Great Maximus may only boast the one win for the campaign but he's going better than his form suggests and is ready to reap the rewards on Saturday when dropping back to benchmark company.

A handy winner when resuming in this grade against his own age at Oakbank, the three-year-old was thrown in the deep end to tackle black type contests in his next two starts. Despite only managing midfield finishes, there was plenty of merit in his runs with the son of Magnus running to a career peak of 92 on the Racing and Sports scale in both the Listed Redelva Stakes and Group 2 Tobin Bronze Stakes. The gelding was then a pound off his peak three weeks ago when finishing third in Open grade at Murray Bridge.

Dropping back to a Bm66 where he tackles the older horses for the first time, Great Maximus only needs to reproduce a similar effort to be very competitive - with the rest of the field requiring several lengths of improvement to match his peak.

Another one I'm keen to follow up on carries form around our bet365 best bet and that's Lingani from the P & B Blanch stable.

The three-year-old filly has returned in strong form the campaign, making a complete mess of them first-up at Balaklava before a strong chasing effort last time at Murray Bridge, beating home Great Maximus by a length. With Dom Tourneur sticking, Lingani gets the chance to take closer order from the inside stall as she drops back to 1000m. Expecting her to be hunting them into the lane before letting rip to put it to bed.
