Class Edge Pivotal For Peltzer

3 minute read

Peltzer's class can compensate for any stamina limitations in his return clash with Prime Star and Acrophobic in the $1 million Bondi Stakes (1600m) at Randwick tomorrow.

That is the opinion of ratings expert Gary Crispe, who is banking on Peltzer's natural talent to provide a decisive winning edge.

Crispe, from Racing And Sports, said Peltzer's half-length win over Prime Star when Acrophobic was a close fourth in the Stan Fox Stakes two weeks ago is the right form reference for the Bondi Stakes.

After studying the sectional times from the Stan Fox, Crispe said Peltzer (pictured) ran the equal-slowest last 200m of the race. His main Bondi Stakes rival, Prime Star, finished off the same sectional about two lengths faster.

"Visually, Peltzer appeared all out and could be vulnerable over the concluding stages in the Bondi Stakes,'' Crispe said. "But in his favour is that he again looks to lead comfortably and is at his best when allowed to dictate. If Clark can pinch a few cheap sectionals early, he is sure to give them all something to run down.''

Peltzer is unbeaten in three Randwick starts and after finishing fifth to Ole Kirk in the Golden Rose, he appreciated the drop in grade in the Stan Fox Stakes.

"He led throughout and did too well under Tim Clark, returning a Timeform rating of 108,'' Crispe said.

"This figure leaves him well placed to win the Bondi Stakes, although the question remains whether can he stretch that form out to the mile (1600m).''

The Richard and Michael Freedmantrained Prime Star is the obvious danger after his eye-catching run in the Stan Fox Stakes, according to Crispe.

"Prime Star settled last in that race and was forced to make a long sustained run to be beaten only a half length by Peltzer,'' Crispe said.
