Race 8: See You In Heaven

We head to the feature to find the one we want to stick with moving into spring and it's the winner See You In Heaven. The father/daughter training partnership of R & C Jolly held fears pre-race off their mare being underdone heading into the Group 3 Behemoth Stakes off an ordinary trial in but the daughter of Divine Prophet never looked threatened in the straight when stretching out for a comfortable 1.6L victory. Defending her crown, the now five-year-old produced an identical run to that of her 2023 success by running to 108 on the Racing and Sports scale. The training pair will again look to target the Listed Leon Macdonald Stakes in two weeks, where she was last year denied 0.3L by talented Patrick Payne-trained mare Seonee. You would expect her to start near-enough odds on there, so the bet might come a bit later on in the prep, say in Melbourne. The stable have announced the Group 1 Empire Rose Stakes at Flemington is the goal. While she currently rates a few lengths off an average winner, the fact the stable feared she didn't have enough running in her legs prior to her first-up run presents as a positive moving into spring features. With a bit more supposedly under the bonnet, if the stable can get her to find that improvement, I don't think Group 1 success is unrealistic for this mare. If she doesn't reach that level, there's a stack of mares races out there for her where her 108 will well-and-truly put her right in the thick of it
