Race 8: Hooked On Wealth
In the last, it was the luckless run of Hooked On Wealth that caught my eye and is a must for the weekly blackbook addition.
Away only fairly from a low draw (3), the W F Francis & G Kent runner was shuffled back early over the 1000m dash and found himself in a world of hurt when turning for home.
With a wall of horses in front of him, hoop Kayla Crowther was praying for a gap to appear, but the pair would only procure clear air after extricating to the outside approaching the 100m.
Rattling home with the fastest 400m & 200m splits on the card, it was ultimately all too late for the five-year-old, beaten 0.5L in fifth in a chaotic finish.
The Racing and Sports scale suggest he was a fraction off his best but had things unfolded more favourably for the gelding, there's little doubt he would have posted a new peak and got the verdict.
With even luck next start he will be winning.
