David Hayes' strong recent run continued with Clifton Red taking out the Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes.

The David Hayes-trained filly Clifton Red created quite an impression in running on for a late win in this Group Three event on debut.

She was slowly away, settled in seventh place, between runners before getting a split nearing the 200m. She then finished very gamely and won, going away by a long neck.

The favourite Ygritte, from the Gerald Ryan yard, had a good trip just behind the pace before moving up comfortably approaching the 400m. She looked the winner after taking the lead at the 200m but could not hold off the late closing winner for second.

The Darley-raced Thalia travelled nicely about fifth before putting in a run at the 400m. She got to third at the 200m and battled on to hold that position at the post.

Top Sight raced just behind the leaders before switching to the rails side at the 400m. She then kept fighting on quite soundly for just under three lengths fourth.
