Beauty's Beast kickstarted a strong day for the New Zealanders with a win in the Fernhill Handicap.
Smart NZ three-year-old Beauty’s Beast scored a strong all-the-way win at his Australian debut.
He began smartly and travelled along nicely in the lead. He responded well when challenged at the 300m and drew away in the final stages to score by two lengths.
Woodbine had a good run, third on the rails to the turn. He stayed on the rails and had clear running in the straight then kept fighting on to hold second.
Engagement raced outside the leader to the turn, challenged strongly at the 300m but tired a little in the latter stages for third.
Spy Decoder was back in seventh place to the turn and made ground for (4.2 lengths) fourth while the favourite Longma had a good run, sixth one off the rails. He was under pressure on straightening and disappointed to finish sixth, beaten eight lengths.
